What We Buy & Item Scope
Questions regarding eligible items, unbranded pieces, broken valuables, and multi-item collections:
Do you buy items that are not listed on the website?
Potentially. The website shows representative categories and brands, not every item the team may consider. Send a brief description or call before traveling to discuss your item.
Do you buy broken, damaged or incomplete items?
Potentially. A damaged item may still have complete-piece, gemstone, component, parts or recoverable-metal value. Do not discard loose stones, broken links, non-running watches or detached components before having them reviewed.
Do you buy unbranded jewelry and watches?
A luxury name is not required. Unbranded pieces may still have value based on precious-metal content, diamonds or gemstones, workmanship, design, age and condition.
Can I bring one item, a collection or a mixed lot?
Yes, the team may review a single item, multiple related pieces or a mixed collection. No universal minimum or maximum is published because every category is handled on its merits.
Purchase Evaluations & Pricing Logic
Understanding no-fee evaluations, purchase offers, appraisal distinctions, and photo reviews:
What is a free purchase evaluation?
It is a no-fee review used to determine whether Buyers of NYC may wish to purchase an eligible item and, when appropriate, what it may offer for a direct purchase. It is not an appraisal for insurance, estate planning, court litigation, loan collateral or tax deduction purposes.
Is a purchase evaluation the same as a formal appraisal?
No. A purchase evaluation supports a possible sale to Buyers of NYC. A formal appraisal for insurance, estate, tax, legal, lending or charitable purposes is a separate, documented service that carries specific standards and should not be confused with an offer to buy.
Is the evaluation free, and am I required to sell?
The core purchase evaluation is presented as free and no obligation. You may ask how the item was considered, accept or decline any offer and leave with your property.
Will every item receive an offer?
No. The team may decide that an item falls outside its current buying scope, needs information that is not available, or is better suited to another market.
How is a purchase offer determined?
The relevant factors depend on the item. They may include material and weight, diamond or gemstone characteristics, brand and reference, originality, condition, documents, marketability and available resale channels.
Why can an offer differ from my receipt or prior appraisal?
A purchase receipt may include retail markup, tax, financing, service and the market at the time of purchase. A prior appraisal may use a replacement value for insurance rather than immediate cash resale value in the secondary market.
Can you give me a final offer from photographs?
Photographs can help the team identify a likely category, request useful details and prepare for an appointment. They may not reveal weight, fineness, movement health, alterations, treatments, stone grade or complete condition, so in-person evaluation is required for a final offer.
Valuation Questions by Item Type
Specific questions regarding precious metals, coins, diamonds, signed estate jewelry, and luxury watches:
Do you buy gold, silver, platinum and palladium?
The team may evaluate precious-metal jewelry, scrap and broken pieces, coins, bars, bullion and other eligible forms. Value can depend on the metal, weight, purity, testing, maker, period and complete-piece marketability.
Do you buy coins, bars and bullion?
Potentially. Bullion products may be considered for metal content, fineness, manufacturer, assay packaging and marketability. Coins can also be reviewed for numismatic or collector interest where appropriate.
Can I sell a diamond without a grading report?
Potentially. A report can help describe a diamond, but missing paperwork does not automatically prevent evaluation. Mounted stones, treatments, grading variations and condition will be reviewed during the in-person inspection.
Do you buy estate, vintage and signed jewelry?
Yes, these categories may be considered. The team may review maker marks, period, workmanship, precious metals, diamonds or gemstones, condition, completeness and provenance.
Can I sell a luxury watch without box or papers?
Potentially. Box, warranty card, service records and spare links can support identity and completeness, but a watch may still be reviewable without them.
Do you buy damaged, non-running or modified watches?
Potentially. Damage, missing parts, non-operation, polishing, service-replacement components and aftermarket modifications can affect value, but parts or complete-piece routes may still exist.
Do you buy loose gemstones and pearl jewelry?
The team may evaluate eligible loose or mounted gemstones and pearls. Identity, treatment, size, quality, matching, condition, laboratory documentation and current demand may be considered.
Preparing Items & Supporting Documents
What to bring, why not to polish before inspection, and how to handle inherited estate items:
What should I bring to an evaluation?
Bring the item and any matching pieces, loose components, original parts, spare watch links, boxes, receipts, laboratory reports, prior appraisals, service invoices, certificates or warranty cards.
Should I clean, polish, repair or service the item first?
Usually not. Coin cleaning, jewelry polishing, stone removal, ultrasonic cleaning, watch servicing or refinishing can alter condition or originality. Bring the item as found with any original and replacement parts.
Will an old appraisal, receipt or certificate determine the offer?
No, but it can be useful supporting information. Documents may help identify materials, measurements, history or prior condition. The team still verifies the physical item directly.
Can I sell inherited, estate or trust property?
Potentially, if you are the owner or have authority to act. Call before the visit to ask what documentation may be needed. Do not upload wills, letters of administration or confidential legal files through online forms.
Should I compare more than one offer?
You may. Compare what each buyer says it is valuing, whether stones, branded or collectible features were considered, what deductions or conditions apply, and whether the offer is clear and immediate.

Identification, Payment & Privacy
Legal secondhand-dealer compliance, accepted payment methods, and privacy guidelines:
Will I need identification to complete a sale?
Expect to present valid government-issued identification before a completed purchase. Applicable secondhand-dealer rules require seller identification and transaction records.
Do I need to prove ownership or authority to sell?
You must own the item or have authority to act for the owner, estate, trust or organization. Requirements can vary by situation. Call before your visit if you have questions about legal authority.
How and when will I be paid?
If you accept an offer, the team will explain the available payment method, timing and any transaction requirements before completion. Options may depend on transaction size, company procedures and applicable law.
Is my inquiry confidential?
The team handles inquiries professionally and collects only information needed to respond. Do not send sensitive legal, identity, banking or ownership records through the website.
What may I upload through the website?
Use the dedicated evaluation-request form for a limited number of clear item photographs and a brief description. Do not upload government ID, financial records, Social Security numbers or full serial numbers.
Can I mail valuables to Buyers of NYC?
Do not send valuables without an approved process and direct instructions from the company. The reconstructed website does not advertise mail-in buying until operations and insured-transit procedures are verified.
